It must have been in the mid ’90ies when I saw the Malesherbes bag for the first time. At that time I thought the bag was far too ladylike for me and that it was just another one of Louis Vuitton’s typical “granny bags”, an old fashioned thing held in the hand…who wore bags like that in those days? And you know by now that in general I prefer shoulder- and cross body bags – how small the shoulder strap may be: Danube, Pochette Accessoires, Sac Flanerie, Thompson Street, just to name a few

Es muss Mitte der ’90iger Jahre gewesen sein, als ich die Malesherbes Tasche das erste Mal sah. Ich fand sie für mich viel zu madamig und dachte es sei wieder eine von diesen typischen Louis Vuitton “Oma-Taschen”, eine, die ganz altertümlich in der Hand getragen wurde…wer tat das damals schon? Inzwischen wissen Sie ja, dass ich grundsätzlich mehr auf Schulter- oder diagonal getragene Taschen stehe, egal wie klein der Schulterriemen auch sein mag: Danube, Pochette Accessoires, Sac Flanerie, Thompson Street, nur um einige zu nennen.

Malesherbes appeared in 1992 for the first time in Louis Vuitton’s Le Catalogue both, in Monogram Canvas as well as in Epi leather.

Die Malesherbes tauchte erstmalig 1992 im Le Catalogue von Louis Vuitton auf, sowohl in Monogram, wie auch in Epi Leder. 

The shape reminds strongly of another French Maker’s very famous style handbag       😉            doesn’t it? But maybe that’s part of the Malesherbes‘ success?

Die Form erinnert sehr stark an ein sehr berühmtes Modell eines anderen bekannten französischen Täschners        😉       nicht wahr? Aber vielleicht ist das ja auch Teil des Erfolges der Malesherbes?

Die Malesherbes ist mit genarbtem Leder gefüttert. Innen hat sie eine Tasche, die mit Reissverschluss verschlossen wird…

…but as with many of the bags made in those days, there is an issue with the lining of the pocket – it’s sticky and it peels. Fortunately not very strongly (yet?).

...aber wie mit vielen Taschen aus der Zeit, ist auch hier das Problem, dass das Futter der Innentasche klebrig ist und abblättert. Zum Glück (noch?) nicht so doll.

… und die japanische “Lex Prix” vom September 1993 verlangt JPY 104.000 / 107.120. Es tut mir leid, ich verstehe kein japanisch, deshalb weiß ich auch nicht. ob die u.g. Preise vor nach der Preiserhöhung bedeuten. Gibt es hier einen japanischen Leser, der bitte Licht in mein Dunkel bringen kann?

I found a German price list from October 2001, which shows the price in both currencies – the new Euro (€ as of 2002) and in the old Deutsch Mark (DM).

Ich fand noch eine alte deutsche Preisliste aus Oktober 2001, die beide Preise aufführte – in DM und in Euro.

My Malesherbes bag is an early one, it dates from 1994 and by classic standards it is 20 years old now, hence it can officially be called “vintage”       😀

Meine Malesherbes ist ein frühes Modell, die, laut ihrem Datecode, aus 1994 ist. Gemäß Definition ist sie somit in diesem Jahr 20 Jahre alt und darf als “vintage” bezeichnet werden      😀

Malesherbes bag where produced as of 1992. The Monogram version approximately until 2002 and the Epi Model until roundabout 2006. I found a black Epi leather model in the 2005 Le Catalogue, which LV sold for Euros 865 then.

Die Malesherbes Taschen wurden ab 1992 produziert. Das Monogram Modell war bis ca. 2002 und die Epi Variante bis etwa 2006 im Programm. Das letzte Mal fand ich eine schwarze Epi Malesherbes in dem Le Catalogue von 2005, die damals EUR 865 kostete.

As the years have gone by, I have become more and more attracted to hand held bags – apparently this comes with age, or shall I say with sophistication? Of course a Malesherbes found her way into my hands, as did two others more or less in the same style, yet a tad bigger       🙂

Im Laufe der Jahre habe ich mehr und mehr Gefallen and echten “Hand”-Taschen gefunden, wahrscheinlich kommt das mit dem Alter, oder soll ich lieber sagen mit der Lebenserfahrung? Und so fand auch eine Malesherbes ihren Weg in meine Hände, wie auch zwei andere in ähnlichem Stil, jedoch etwas größer       🙂
