CEE’S ODD BALL PHOTO CHALLENGE: 2015 WEEK 32

Last year the old home of the former Vereins- und Westbank located on Alter Wall, Hamburg, right next to the water was demolished. It was a huge project! Sometimes I went by and just took a couple of snapshots. Here are a couple of pictures that fit into Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge.

I wonder where this door led to? / Mich würde interessieren wohin dies Tür führte?

See for yourself how big this demolition project was…

Sehen Sie selbst, wie groß dieses Abriss Projekt war…

quite a big building, quite a demolition project

…a year later it’s still not completely finished! Zech Group is the investor who purchased the lot and architects Gerkan, Marg and Partner are in charge of what is to come: a new shopping mall etc. What else?! I am very curious as to what the future will bring.

Was sonst!? Ich bin sehr gespannt, auf das, was da kommen soll.

I usually feel sad when old buildings have to come down. Everything in it is old and can never be obtained again. I would love to save the doors, the moulding and cabinets from old homes to use in a newer one. I love the old, better than the new. (Except with humans ) I can’t wait to see what comes next though.

🙂 I’m very curious as well!
You’re right – sometimes the old doors and cabinets have so much more personality and look so much better in a new home than the standard stuff does.
By the way, got your letter today 🙂 Thank you! xoxo 🙂

There’s something about seeing buildings demolished that makes me sad, even though some of them are better off gone..

      🙂 True!
But sometimes I wonder what these walls could tell… especially in a former bank building – the happy and the sad tears cried there…
Have a very HAPPY day! 🙂

I’m always sad to see tumbled buildings. I saw a completely empty lot today and was amazed. In NYC they get them down fast. TIme is money! 🙁

🙂 I have quite a few memories regarding this building, as I used to be a customer for a long time. I think this demolition is taking so long, since the new owners have to meet some high monument conversation standards. Plus, the inner part of Hamburg’s city is built on oak tree trunks. Demolition and construction have to been done with lots of care! 🙂 xo
