Do you enjoy skiing or ice skating or if it’s warm where you are, hiking or enjoying outdoor sports?
Skiing is not for me. Firstly, because I’m always cold and secondly, because I twisted my ankles really badly after going downhill skiing when I was about 10 years old. Since then – forget it. Not my cup of tea.
But I like ice skating, started it last year again. But because of COVID-19 I’m not sure if we’ll have an outdoor skating rink this winter. Doesn’t really look like it…

Do you give to charities or homeless that you might encounter, during this time of year, more than you do otherwise?
Yes, I do. As a matter of fact for Sunday, which was St. Nicholas Day here, I had packed goodie bags filled with sweets, nuts, dates, apples, tangerines, face masks and all kinds of things someone living on the street might need. Apart from that I made “Brötchen” – bread rolls filled with cheese and and cold cuts – and gave them, together with bottles of water to homeless people.
Under normal circumstances there are quite a few homeless people on the streets of Vienna. But these past days, were we’ve been in a total lock-down and the police was omnipresent, it wasn’t an easy task finding them. After handing over the last of my goodie bags I was totally exhausted, but very happy – not only because two of the guys blew me kisses. Making somebody happy is a feeling that goes both ways.

What is the most enjoyable activity you engage in during December? Is it a tradition for you and your family?
Eating home baked cookies and any kinds of Christmas treats!
Traditionally I would drive to Niederegger in the city of Lübeck, where they make the world’s best Marzipan and eat and buy a ton here. But due to Corona…. Need I say more?

Won’t be home in Hamburg this year
.
What changes will COVID-19 bring to your festive celebrations this year?
Normally I’d sing and say I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. Not this year! I won’t be able to travel to Hamburg, in order to spend Christmas with my entire family, as I have done for so many years before. Travelling there would mean quarantine for 10 days upon arrival and when returning home to Vienna, same thing here.

Share a good will wish for the world!
I hope that people will be sensible and stay put best as possible. Not being able to attend Christmas, New Years’ or whatever parties with x amount of people, might sound like a challenge to some people. But I think the bigger challenge is to keep a safe distance – no shopping sprees, no huge family outings – and help reduce the risk of spreading the pandemic virus any further.

I haven’t skied for years, but I loved it. I also love ice skating but hard to think about that here in Arizona. 🙂 I love what you did for the homeless. One year the women’s group of our church put together purses filled with women’s items and donated them to a shelter. That was great. We called Christmas at our house off as our younger daughter would have had to fly (three airports and two flights each way), the s-i-l who usually comes has health issues, and our older daughter and husband live in California and who knows what rules they’ll have in place. But my parents will be over on Christmas Day and we’ll also see my brother and family on Christmas Eve Day. So we’re blessed.

Thanks Claudia for Sharing Your World! ☺ I loved the hashtag you shared at the bottom of your post and may adopt that myself! Your answers were very thoughtful and seasonal, and I’m sorry the virus has curtailed what seems to be a very busy and happy time of year for you! But you still got out ‘there’ and did those amazing treats and goodie bags for the homeless! That’s amazing and so kind! Maybe next year we’ll all get the gift of ‘no virus’ in our virtual stockings? Have a fabulous week!
