1. When you just need to forget the world for a few hours, what helps you get away from it all?

A delicious cup of tea or coffee, an interesting book and/or a fun old movie – those are the things that can help me forget the world around me in a flash. Beading – my ETSY Shop here –, sewing or cross stitching can also let me forget the world around me easily. Apart from that some delicious pasta from my favorite Italian Ristorante Piccobello here will do, too…

2. If you woke up tomorrow with a unicorn horn extending from the top of your head, what would be the biggest advantage and disadvantage of your new appendage?

Gosh, who thought up that questions?

I have no idea… I don’t see an advantage in having a horn on my forehead. So knowing myself I’d try to find the best doctor around, in order to get the thing removed as quickly and safely as possible!

3. What is the creepiest thing you’ve ever seen someone do, that you’d be willing to talk about, of course?

The creepiest thing I’ve seen someone do was in Monaco at a fancy restaurant many years ago. A man was shoving food into his face (eating is something else!), while simultaneously talking on the phone, to a woman sitting next to him and counting money, too. While doing so, the food fell out of his mouth and on to his plate, as well as on to the table. He didn’t seem to care, hence he’d pile the remnants on to his fork and put it all back into his mouth. The scenery was absolutely gross and I had to change seats, because simply observing the guy literally made me sick.

4. What’s the silliest or pettiest thing that tends to really upset you?

I absolutely detest stinginess – in all areas of life. I’m not only talking about tiny tips.

Nevertheless, I have to admit that I find tipping in the U.S. is rather crazy. I know it’s all due to the terribly low wages, but honestly, why can a restaurant MAKE ME pay 20% tip (or perhaps even more these days) in advance because I’m joining a party of X people, even if I might not be happy with the quality of the food, the service or, or, or? How can anybody expect me to tip, if they don’t even know if I will be happy with the quality of whatever stands to be valued?

However, back to the question asked. Another thing that drives me up the walls is when the first thing a co-worker says in the morning, is that he or she has to leave early. It doesn’t matter how much work there is, or if other colleagues might want to leave early, too, THIS person makes sure he or she is the first one out. I find that extremely uncooperative and had a fall out recently with someone for this reason. The person wrote an email saying he was gone for the day, but I was still there – without informing me prior to leaving! Sure enough I had other plans! Well, that really made my day. A fuse blew and I let it all out. Ouch! But I feel a lot better since.

5. How comfortable are you with meeting others who are very different from yourself? (no judgment implied. Different in any way you’d like to think about – different cultures, different races, different mind set (opinions)? 

That depends on the people I meet. Sometimes it will “click” and the new acquaintance(s) and I will hit it off immediately. At other times it might be real hard work – for both parties. There are also times when I meet people who I just don’t like, for various reasons. Often I cannot even put my finger on it. There just seems to be something between the lines that says NO, I don’t feel comfortable with you.
