Rustic Turquoise is today’s topic of CitySonnet’s photo challenge HERE. Turquoise has always been one of my favorite colors. To me the color stands for summers spent by the beach in Santa Monica, CA or on the island Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea.

Rustikales Türkis ist das heutige Thema von CitySonnets Foto-Challenge HIER. Türkis war schon immer eine meiner Lieblingsfarben. Für mich steht die Farbe für Sommer, die ich am Strand von Santa Monica, Kalifornien oder auf der Insel Sardinien im Mittelmeer verbracht habe.

RUSTIC TURQUOISE TYPICAL CALIFORNIA STYLE

I also associate my childhood in California with Native American silver and turquoise jewelry, the kind people liked to wear with hippie-style, colorful flowing dresses there in the 1970s and 1980s, and the kind that sold at craft bazaars and art markets everywhere. Somewhere I have an old silver and turquoise bangle tucked away, sadly it’s broken.

Mit meiner Kindheit in Kalifornien verbinde ich auch indianischen Silber- und Türkis Schmuck, wie man ihn in 1970er und 1980er dort gern zu Walla-Kleidern im Hippiestil trug und wie er auf Bazaren und Kunstmärkten überall verkauft wurde. Ich habe auch noch irgendwo so einen kaputten Kinder-Armreif sicher verstaut.

Often, coral and mother of pearl were added to the combination of turquoise and silver, adding even more color and radiance to the piece of jewelry.

Oftmals wurden den Silber und türkisfarbenen Schmuckstücken auch noch Koralle und Perlmutt hinzugefügt, um ihm noch mehr Farbe und Ausstrahlung zu verleihen.

FIRST CUP OF COFFEE

Nothing beats the first cup of coffee in the morning! Especially at the weekends, when I don’t have to rush, but can read a book in the comfort of my own home. Then the cup is as important as its content. While I often use mugs with smiley faces during the week for motivation, on the weekend it can be something that reminds me of vacation. Like, for example, this Siesta Island mug from Hermès HERE in its soft turquoise basic tone. 

Nichts geht über die erste Tasse Kaffee am Morgen! Gerade an den Wochenenden, wenn ich mich nicht – husch, husch! – beeilen muss, sondern noch in aller Gemütlichkeit ein Buch lesen kann. Dann ist das Gefäß mindestens so wichtig wie sein Inhalt. Während unterhalb der Woche Smiley Becher zur Motivation zum Einsatz kommen, darf es am Wochenende gern etwas Besonderes sein. Es darf mich an Urlaub erinnern. Wie z.B. dieser Siesta Island Becher von Hermès HIER in seinem zart türkisfarbenen Grundton.

BRACELETS IN SHADES OF TURQUOISE

This summer, I’ve been going wild with turquoise bracelets and necklaces HERE. Whether glass beads, howlite, dyed mother of pearl, Miyuki or other beads – it all went into my work. And when I look at them, I immediately want to travel to sunny places. Yes, I definitely associate Rustic Turquoise with vacation!

In diesem Sommer habe ich mich an türkisfarbenen Armbändern und Ketten ausgetobt HIER. Ob Glasperlen, Howlith, gefärbter Perlmutt, Miyuki oder sonstige Beads – es ist alles in meine Arbeiten eingeflossen. Und wenn ich sie mir so anschaue, dann möchte ich sofort in die Sonne verreisen. Ja, (Rustic) Türkis verbinde ich definitiv mit Urlaub!
